Project Brief
Our class was tasked with creating a cookware device. The "client" requested that our device serve to enhance one of four cooking trends. I chose to pursue Nostalgic cooking.
As the project progressed I steered a little away from personal nostalgia. I began trying to create a product that had inherent nostalgic vibes that could resonate with anyone no matter if a similar product was present in their life or not.
The goal of my project is to give adults permission to play with their food. As we get older, we tend to see food as simply a life-sustaining substance as opposed to the joyous product we used to see it as.

User Research
Before conceptualizing, the team engaged in a few weeks' worth of user research.
The bulk of our research consisted of interviews with people between the ages of eighteen and twenty-two. We surveyed them on their cooking habits, aiming to draw out thoughts and memories surrounding cooking and eating.
My ah-ha moment was found during one interview where the person surveyed was gushing about the experiences of guilt-free play time during meals and how they miss having that freedom.

Market Research
The Stego Sauce was designed with a very specific style and aesthetic in mind. In recent years there has been a resurgence in the maximalist design trend as well as a reimagined version of the cottage core aesthetic.
This opened up space in the market for functional objects that served more of a kitschy aesthetic. From stools shaped like strawberries to frog-shaped lamps, young adults are taking a liking to representation but still somewhat abstract take on their favorite animals, fruits, and toys.
